It’s all in the Details! What to Include in your Wedding Detail Photos
While it is not necessary to pack a bunch of things for the detail photos at your wedding, people do ask what they should have ready for me when I arrive. The answer is, you can make it as involved or simple as you’d like, but just make sure that whatever you include is all in one spot.
Often times, a couple will just hand me a shoe box full of goodies. I find a cool part of the floor to set up and I do my thing. We do discuss the wedding details that you will have with you beforehand so I can be sure to document them. The trick is, keep everything together so it’s easy to get through this part of the day quickly. Typically it takes about 20 minutes for me to photograph your wedding dress and all of these little wedding details.
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Wedding rings (all three, and a ring box helps too!)
Jewelry - including hair clips, wrist watches, etc.
Save the dates
Invitations
Vow books or hand written notes (It’s worth taking the time to write your wedding vows by hand. I love including your handwriting in a ring shot.)
Shoes
Veil
Perfume/Cologne
Extra fabric from alterations — can be from bridesmaid dresses or your own wedding dress
Flowers or other bits of decor
Purse
Any old relationship goodies you can gather up at home — first time in a photo booth together? first love note? maybe a pros and cons list you scribbled down about your partner when you knew things were getting serious? first tiny gift? first mixed tape? (do people still do that?)
Whatever you decide to do, just trust that I am there to make magic happen with whatever you’ve chosen to pack in that box.
While I find this part of the day to be very fun and a good warm-up to the getting ready events that follow, it’s important for you to know that you don’t have to include a detail photo like this in your wedding day. If you are just wanting to put all of your things on and go about your day, that is totally exciting and worthy of documenting. I love photographing details when they are part of your wedding ensemble as well.
