Julia + Kevin’s Berkshire Wedding at The Buxton School

Bride and Groom at the Buxton School in Williamstown, Massachusetts

Julia and Kevin planned their Berkshire wedding at the Buxton School, a private boarding school in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Nestled in the westernmost corner of Massachusetts, just south Vermont and east of New York, Williamstown is way up in the tippy top corner of the Bay State. I mean, it is like, WAY up there.

They were married right on the campus green space, which abuts the Clarke Art Museum and offers sweeping views of the Berkshire Mountains. While I used to work in this part of Massachusetts as a news photographer, I had never visited the Buxton School before. To be honest, I had actually never heard of it. I also couldn’t find many photos of it online. The campus has a strict no smartphone policy for its students so instagram did not offer the usual abundance of tagged photos.

So when I arrived without really knowing what to expect, I immediately fell in love with the school’s character. Of course there are perks to being familiar with a venue, but there is nothing better than seeing a location for the first time on a wedding day.

The Buxton School was full of quintessential New England-y places to explore. There were old buildings covered in ivy, there were greenhouses, mess halls, science classrooms, dorms, cabins, and art rooms. It was the most unlikely location for a wedding and Julia and Kevin, along with the help of their vendors, transformed it into a magical summer setting for their romantic tented wedding. What was even more special about this place was that their guests were able to stay in the dorms on campus for the weekend.

Kevin is an editor at the Clark Art Institute. He is also an avid skateboarder and snowboarder and all-around funny guy. Julia is the business/operations manager at a local Youth Center. She likes to swim, do yoga, and go hiking. She loves reading books and doing crossword puzzles. Kevin and Julia love to eat anything and everything and travel when they're able to and they love to spend time with their friends and family.

Their wish for their wedding day was to have “a big happy party with all of our loved ones - lots of happy tears, food, booze, and dancing. We have a simple ceremony planned, a cocktail hour, a sit-down dinner, and dancing with a band for the end of the night. We want to remember it as a happy day surrounded and supported by people who care about us.”

I can confidently say that all of those wishes were granted on this beautiful day and rightfully so. These two deserved a diamond day.

I have to mention the other vendors from this day, as they really worked hard to embrace the charm of this location and this unique couple.

The table settings were done by The Borrowed Teacup in Amherst, Massachusetts. Live swing and mo-town music were provided by The O’Tones. Julia’s dress was from Pearl Bridal Boutique in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Julia’s engagement ring is a family heirloom on her mom's side and the band belonged to her maternal grandmother. Kevin's ring is from Shop Kestrel in Northampton, Massachusetts. Kevin’s tie was from Julia’s dad, like from his closet. Flowers were provided by Intervale Family Farm in Westhampton, Massachusetts. Buxton's own Chef Heather Mumford catered a beautiful seasonal dinner at the reception.
