Scream Session

A few months ago I came upon a series in the New York Times focused on moms during the pandemic called “The Primal Scream”.

Journalist Claire Cain Miller used the series to follow a handful of mothers as they juggled life during the lockdown. Their professional and family lives looked a lot like mine. No routine, no order, no feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day, and worst of all, no sense that the cycle would ever end.

Some of the mothers in her series were meeting up with others to scream out their frustrations in parking lots.

I was really drawn to that idea. I put a call out on social media to see if there were any local mothers who wanted to meet up to scream for a portrait series.

Today we can all say that we are heading toward normalcy. We are moving beyond the pandemic.

However, American mothers continue to struggle with the emotional aftermath of being the invisible workers during the Covid-19 crisis.

Many are left feeling traumatized and remain culturally unheard and unseen.
