Becca and Scott’s private wedding at their new home in Groton, Massachusetts.
Is there a better way to celebrate buying your first new home than hosting a wedding there? Just a few short weeks after closing on their dream house, Becca and Scott decided to be married on their front lawn.
Of course, they had a big wedding planned for this year and went back and forth on the idea of postponing. At the last minute, they said, f*ck it, let’s get married here.
Becca spent days tending to the yard — ripping out thorny brambles, bittersweet, and poison ivy. The yard was beautiful and the scars and bruises on her arms miraculously had enough time to fade before the wedding.
Becca and Scott are no strangers to adventure. As avid hikers and backcountry skiers, these two took on a last minute change in wedding plans like it was just another mountain to climb.
They were married in late August, and if you know anything about New England, you know that it’s best to assume you’ll have bad weather, and with August typically being the start of hurricane season, Scott decided to follow an old southern tradition of “burying the bourbon” to keep the rain away. A month before they were married, Scott chose a nice weather day to dig a hole in his front yard and bury an upside down bottle of bourbon. It paid off, and they ended up having their wedding on one of the few beautiful weather days we had that month.
This wedding was FUN and sweet. I felt such a connection to this couple and was so sad to leave their wedding. I feel like we could be forever friends and just revisiting this work and writing this blog post makes me miss them so much.
